Well i‘m sure you guys have heard about lubitel 166B, 166 universal and 166+, but how about 166? Hell ye no B, no universal, no +, just 166. Believe me this camera was a big surprise for me.
I found this camera with it‘s brother, Lubitel 166 universal, in a vintage market. At first i was very surprised. I have never heard about this model before, maybe because compared with other Lubitel models it‘s quite rare. It was made only Approx 70,000 units. By the look this camera is similar to Lubitel 166 class cameras and by technical side: i would say it‘s in-between 166U and 166+. It has all classic Lubitel 166 features except standard cable release thread, plus some extra futures which you can find only on 166+ model:
1. Standard hotshoe
2. A set of handy weather symbols
3. No red window on the back (Compared with this great tipster of our friend Mr. Stouf you can turn this camera in to a perfect 35mm film shooter)
And the last but not the least, extra feature, which you can find only on this model of all Lubitels is a frame counter. Don’t know about you but that was a bit freaky, unexpected and all so very interesting for me. Interesting how the frame counter works! Freaky and unexpected, that I can’t make a double exposures! Why? Because frame counter on this cam means coupled advance and shutter cock.
Shooting with this camera is fun. I have experimented with it for a while and found a interesting quick tipster: Lubitelrama. Usually to advance from one to another frame, you have to turn advance wheel till the shutter gets cocked and a bit more till advance wheel stops. If you want to make a Lubitelrama, advance the knob only till the shutter cocks and then shoot. Till one frame changes to another (For example from 1 to 2) you can make three overlapping shots. You can see couple Lubitelrama examples in my gallery. Have fun!
