When i was growing up my father had a Olympus OM 1. I remember thinking it was the coolest camera i had ever seen, and i still think it's the coolest camera i have ever seen.

My brother uses it now and it has never failed it’s been in service for about 30 years and its still going strong. You would be lucky if your digital camera lasted 3 years the amount that thing is used. A few years ago i purchased my own one, the md model in black. Its got scratches and dents but it still works perfectly, i have taken it everywhere and i tend to wrap it in a jumper in my holdall so i don’t have to take a camera bag with me when i go away. Its so compact and tough it really is amazing. Mine cost me £25 on ebay so they are not even expensive, and some of the lenses can be picked up dirt cheap as well. Do your self a favour get one!
These are part of the hugely popular (in the 70s and 80s) OM range, they were designed to be the most ergonomically designed compact SLR cameras at the time and to this day they probably still are. It can run film speeds of 25 to 1600 ASA. The light meter is very simple to use with just a simple plus and minus symbol and needle. I also like the way that the shutter speed is adjusted from the lens mount and the aperture from the end of the lens, its just a very user friendly SLR.
