Diana Instant Back+ : A Dream Come True!

The Diana+/F+ cameras are some of the coolest fun cameras since beer in mugs, while Instax cameras are like heaven-sent instant fun photo spitting machines. Lomography took both the Diana+/F+ camera and Instax ... and made them into the ultimate fun machine!

While installing the Instax back onto the Diana+/F+ makes your camera look a bit fatter than it is, it’s all worth it when you see the first piece of photo being spitted out (provided you didn’t forget to remove the lens cap!).

Installing it is a piece of cake! Just remove the original camera back and the piece of metal at the bottom that holds 120 film in place, then slip on the new cool Instant Back+. Pop in two pieces of CR2 batteries and a pack of film … and you’re all ready to go! Oh … do also remember to install the ‘adapter lens’ thingie that comes with the Instant Back+ package. It will change the ISO of the Instax film from ISO800 to ISO400. Be sure to do that or you’ll have to hide from the sun like a vampire.

Taking photos with the Instant Back+ doesn’t require you to change much in the way you take photos with a Diana+/F+ camera. Just use your camera like you normally would, remembering that you are using ISO400 film. Once you taken a photo, switch on the Instant Back+ and press the big sexy button beside it. The back will then spit out a cool sexy instant photo. Not any normal Instax photo … but a photo from a Diana camera!

You might notice that I mentioned switching on the back after take a photo. Why? This is because on several ocassions, I accidentally pressed the sexy big round button and wasted a few shots of (that expensive) film. Switching it on when you need to eject the film is a safer way.

Don’t forget the magical fun lenses that you can use with your Diana+/F+ cameras. Feel free to change and experiment with the different lenses. Close-up, wide angle, Fisheye … Telephoto … just mix and match and mess them up for crazy cool results. Double, triple … hit the baby with multi-exposures to get some wacky wild stuffs. Have fun!

Never worked with Instax (yet), so I've got a dumb question: if you are making multiple exposures - how long can you wait between the shots? I mean, is the paper (instax film) considered exposed soon after the first one, so that the doubles should follow each other, or you can shoot some textures and then send to someone else to make doubles together? :)

@breakphreak : there isn't any limit of how long you can wait between the shots (as long as you don't eject the film). The doubles will follow each other. You can't fill the pack with 1 exposure and later reload it like 35mm/120 film.
