I already was an analogue lover before I met Lomography, the camera I used to always carry with me was a 35mm Polaroid 900AF. This camera used to be my holiday company until I met Lomo Supersampler.
image from here
Polaroid 900AF camera has a built in flash, tripod thread, auto focus, automatic light meter, automatic film wind and rewind, wrist strap, digital photo counter, low battery warning, carrying case and blade lens cover (like LCA), it is a plastic compact camera but it has the Polaroid quality and it is extremely easy to use, just point and shoot, the camera sensors and auto-focus do all the work for you, in fact, it is so simple that it becomes one of the camera biggest handicap: you cannot change any settings and you cannot mess around with the film, it is all automatic.
The best quality of this camera is its color fidelity, even with cheap films, the results are always extremely close to reality and it allows you to take great photos in cloudy days without flash, even with 100ISO films. Again, the sensors do a great job. The flash also is automatic; the camera decides when to turn it on and off. All of these automatic features must drain batteries after batteries, right?
Wrong, despite of using two simple AA LR6 (1.5v) batteries, this camera has a great power management, the auto shut-off helps you to save your batteries. If you are afraid to go out of batteries just use rechargeable ones and always carry a spare pack with you.
The viewfinder is a standard Polaroid type, wide and clear and it has the photo limits just like LCA, in those semi-transparent lines.
Unfortunately I don’t use it anymore but after all these years it still works properly and it looks just like the day I bought it. I’m thinking on using it someday, maybe to do some doubles with my LCA.
It is a nice camera for those who like to shoot without minding the aperture, focus and all the settings that a regular film camera has, it is also a great camera to shoot in low light conditions during day time, especially on those dark cloudy days. You can find this camera easily on a online seller for a very reasonable price and it worth every penny if you are looking for a simple reliable camera.
What I like in this camera:
- Color fidelity
- Easy to use
- Uses AA LR6 (1.5v) batteries
- Overall quality for a plastic camera
- Blade lens protection
- Reliability
What I dislike in this camera:
- No film or camera settings manipulation
- Despite of being a compact camera, it is a bit big
