Monday Moodboard: Nina Leen's Vintage Photographs of Circus Girls

Once again we rely on good ol' history for that much-needed dose of inspiration to start the week with. This time, amazing circus girls take the spotlight through photographs by an equally talented female photographer, Nina Leen.

Females have often been described as soft and fragile so it’s amazing to see how the women both behind and in these pictures just went right ahead and broke all stereotypes, especially during a more conservative period of time. Taken by renowned LIFE photographer Nina Leen in 1949 at Sarasota, Florida, this series of behind-the-scenes shots depicts circus girls as they practiced their death-defying acrobatic stunts and routines, with only ropes keeping them from falling – all while dressed in skimpy outfits!

The way I see it, Leen’s series is inspiring because it just goes to show that women can do well in fields usually dominated by men, too!
