Bill Cunningham’s Vintage Fashion Photographs to be Exhibited in New York City

Take a trip back to New York’s distant past through these quirky monochromatic vintage photographs by renowned New York Times fashion photographer Bill Cunningham.

A number of old photographs by Cunningham is set to be put up by the New-York Historical Society in an exhibit called Bill Cunningham: Façades from March 14 until June 15, 2014. Façades comprise of photos that Cunningham took within a period of eight years beginning in 1968, in which he set off “to document the architectural riches and fashion history of New York City.” These photos often featured his muse and fellow photographer Editta Sherman in period costumes, which Cunningham sourced himself, and shot against the backdrop of some historical settings.

In 1976, Cunningham himself donated about 88 silver gelatin prints from Façades to the New-York Historical Society. Below are just a few of these:
