Monday Moodboard: Uncontrollably Excited for a 2014 Planner

Let's get this out of the way before anything else: I love paper products. Notebooks, stationery, cards, postcards, sticky notes, wrapping paper, kraft paper, printed photos. Anything made of paper, I tend to hoard and surround myself with!

It’s going to be November in a couple of days, and while many will probably start making year-end plans and such, I am excited to begin my own favorite year-end activity: scouting (and ultimately buying) a planner for the coming year. It may be a bit too early for some, but for me, the search for the “perfect” planner often takes longer than usual. I want something as simple and effective as the Bullet Journal (which I’m currently using), but also as flexible as the beautiful Hobonichi Techo Planner. Also, the pages need to be squared/grid (I’ve been fascinated with grid notebooks for as long as I remember).

I’ve always loved Moleskine’s squared notebooks even if they’re quite expensive, but I’d really, really, really love to get my hands on the popular but equally pricey Hobonichi Techo planner for next year. Why? I love how it encourages people to doodle, sketch, paint, and journal their way through the days. Watching the video below showing people working with their Hobonichi Techo planner is enough to make me want to be as creative with my planners!

Wow, love this Hobonichi. So expensive with a cover though! And god knows how much the shipping is. Wonder if there's anything similar made by anyone else?

@daisymae SUPER expensive indeed! I am currently on the look out for something like it; in any case, there's always good ol' Moleskine grid notebooks, I guess.

@daisymae I mean, a Moleskine grid notebook you can customize to look and feel the closest to the Hobonichi Techo planner is my best bet when all else fails.

Yes, that looks awesome. However, if I glue my scraps inside my journal, it starts coming appart at the back at the end of the year. I wonder how this journal manages that.... I'll try a small lether bound file folder next year, to see if it copes better with my scraps on the pages.

You could have a look at K & Company 'smash books', though they are more scrapbook/journals than planner/journals. Link: http://www.eksuccess(…)tm?bid=1695
Paperchase also have some interesting ones. link: http://www.paperchas(…)/stationery

That or make your own, thats what I tend to do, as I love having found/reused papers and envelopes bound into my books. I have 3 tipsters on bookbinding on the site, should you wish to have a go.

Oh dear, have fallen in love and ordered a Hobonichi Planner! No cover though. Wonder if I can find any compatible covers on eBay?!

FYI, this is the breakdown of the costs:
    Subtotal 2,500yen (planner only)
Sales tax -120yen (taken off as I'm not in Japan)
    Shipping 1,500yen
    Shipping & handling 500yen
    Grand total 4,380yen

www.xe.com reckons this is about £28 in GBP (total).

@guanatos I'm sticking with my bullet journal too until I decide whether I'm going to buy a Hobonichi Techo or just make something like it with Moleskine.

@inrod I've seen some Hobinichi planners that had become thick with all the journalling and pasting and I think the leather cover/jacket helps with to hold everything together!

@asharnanae Those are really nice for journalling too!

@daisymae Oh my, congratulations! :D I'm really close to deciding to get one, just the planner too! The price is what's really holding me back. If I do get one, I think I'll either make a fabric journal cover or find a store where I can have a leather journal jacket customized. I haven't found other online stores selling covers or jackets for Hobonichi planners, so I guess having them customized is the best option :(
