Old School Piggy Rules Extended!

Good news for contributors!

You’ve probably heard about our New Piggy Guidelines and so we want to explain to you why they need to be implemented.

Since 2009, our piggy points distribution has increased drastically and now, four (4) years later we are giving out about 15 times as many piggies as we did back then. And we are far from finished there, as we are planning more competitions, promotions and giveaways for you.

The New Piggy Guidelines have been created to ensure that we can still provide you with even more of this excitement in the years to come.

We’ve seriously considered your sentiments in the last 24 hours and we understand that you feel strongly about changing the piggy system within a week’s time.

Some of you might still be waiting for magazine piggies, hoping to win a competition you entered before making a purchase or contemplating on sharing your latest analogue experience.

We value your opinions, as much as we value you as members of the Lomo Community. We acknowledge your feedback and now understand that a week’s notice might be too short given the circumstances, and so we have decided to give you more precious time.

You may still use your accumulated piggies according to old rules until Monday, September, 30th. You still have almost a month to garner remaining piggy points and choose the best products from our Shop.

We are working on worthwhile solutions for our core contributors and translators, the people that we know make these pages such an amazing place, to ensure that they remain happy as part of the community.

Keep in mind though, that we will be implementing the New Piggy Guidelines come Tuesday,October 1st. That’s still about a month away. You still have plenty of time.

Visit the Lomography Online Shop and have fun shopping!

@pan_dre Thanks, when you'll write the new rules, please consider the costs of film and development needed to write an article. I hope in a good solution! Lomo on!

As for the situation, I guess it's going to be hard for lomo to win back the trust from the core members, if they can at all now...

Thanks for considering our comments @LSI. I do understand that it is difficult to keep the Piggies the way they are, but you shouldn't underestimate the impact of your decisions. Sometimes you have to give some things for free, to have a lot of magazine posts and a happy community which advertises your products to their friends

They are trying to say that they gave us too many piggies in the past years and they are loosing to much money in this way. I can understand the policy but surely they will loose contributors.

@ophelia A piggy reduction (for example 3 for a not req. post and 6 for a req. post) together with the old rules is surely better than the new rules!

Thanks for all LomoStaff for considering all comments and I believe that you all try to work better and improve Lomography as well. I am totally agree with @lostlittlekid @shoujoai @sirio174. We are looking for a fair treats.

To be honest, most of us are sad to see that Lomography transforming from a group of analogue addict with passion to commercialize. The great this about Lomography is form by a worldwide society who love analogue photography and we hope films never die. From the past years, Lomography did great efforts to make our (community) analogue dreams alive and continuous. That is so sad to see that passion transforming to commercialize day by day. We are understand that Lomography needs profit to grow and stay stronger, but please do not remember the earlier vision and mission (dreams/ purpose) of forming this Lomography.

I do really appreciated Lomography did gave us free piggies from time to time since past years. Everytime, my friends and I were so exciting while received free piggies from Lomography. Yes, it is a huge piggies amount that Lomography gave to members. But, every single member has to work out if he/she wants to extend the life of piggies. Otherwise, he/she will still using the free 10 piggies during purchase. For who are really collect lots of piggies, maybe 50 piggies, maybe 100 piggies or more than that? All these people are work out something, thus they earn so much piggies. So, I think they are worth even they redeem free products with piggies just because they worth to get it.

I still remember that there was "Reviews of the week", "Tipster of the weeks" with 10 piggies, "Featured review of the month" with 20piggies as reward to encourage all the writers. What I can saw during that period, is that most of the writers did put more effort and "useful" articles published. But this reward just running about few months.

I am here to write so long and so much comments is not only about complaining or blaming. All these words are just not enough to express myself. Lomography, do you know that I feel proud to meet this community and I found myself because of Lomography. I found my dreams and I knew what I did as hobby (people don't understand why I spent/waste so much on films) worth something because of Lomography.

I guess... I still will upload photos here but I don't think as aggressive as previous. (This is sad too to listen many of them said that won't upload photos or write articles here anymore). Sorry Lomography, many of them might leave here, maybe.... this is not the "family" that they comfortable to stay with anymore.

Looking forward to your improvement to keep analogue alive. Good Luck!

@yokekei @pan_dre Another bad new is the abrupt change about third parts items, like the belairgon or zenit lenses. Again, I hope in a good new rule that take into account these items.

@yokekei found the right words to express how these changes feel for longtime members of lomography. I think the reason why so many people are upset about your decision is not because they lose money but because they actually care about Lomography, where it is going and what it is going to be in the future.

    1. As said before, sharing experiences through articles costs money and time. For many of us, english isn't our language so we have to make an extra effort. I do believe that my articles took more to write than most of the ones produced by the LSI team. And we are the ones telling you which competitions you forgot/don't care to announce! We WORK for you!

    2. Why do you continue to ignore that, with those insane rule (rules are OK but these ones will ruining the whole thing), we just don't care for piggies? I don't care if you are going to give more, I just don't want them anymore. It's such a sad way to try to make us spend more money... And there is not a good shop to spend money even if I wanted. It's absurd!! Are you all gone mad?

    3. Do you remeber who pre-ordered your Lomochrome Purple without using any piggies and financed other lomography projects? Is this your way to say thank you?

I've heard a lot of lomographers here refer to the products they get as "free". In monetary terms, yes it is free, but if you think about the costs/time accumulated in taking photos and writing articles, is it really free? Lomo writers I assume get paid real money but we get paid in piggies. Piggies, check this out, isn't real money. It's only usable in the online shop and even then there are restrictions(?)

I guess all I'm trying to say is that we're not here to take and take and take. We shared something important, valuable even and I hope that it get rewarded with that much respect too. You work, you get paid right?

@yokekei - Speaking volumes once again in your posts. I couldn't agree more with your sentiments and thanks for making yourself heard :)

I'm glad I did save enough piggies and earn enough in the past to have all the gears now but it's harder in the future to buy/exchange lomography products. Still the new rules sucks like what? 5 piggies for a 50 purchase? 10%? ==

Many years are passed since my first encounter with lomography, was still the XX siecle! a lot of things are happened here along these years, the launch of the new cameras! the great competitions that litterally brings some of us or our pictures around the world. I'll never forget the emotion to discover on Flickr that unknow people posed in front of some of my lomowalls exibited at Trafalguar Square in London (thanx to LSI)! or having hour pictures exibited at the Photokina or the great competition with Absolut! it was really like to be part of a Big Mission and a beautiful game. Along the years I bought several products for me and for a lot of people that aren't signed on the site! and to be Home of the Day or Photo of the Day was a great honour apart the good money received for that. And what about all the beautiful peolple from all over the world encountered on the site and also phisically!? Different times, a decent job that let me "throw away" occasionally some money for strange plastic cameras. But now everithings is changed, not only at Lomography.com but the whole world is changed, I can understand the new Piggies policy becouse is the same all over and Companies are not charitable organizations. I don't wanna be offensive but this situation remind me of the pusher tactics, the first doses are almost free untill you're addicted then you have paid in full. However, I'm still here, the fun to shot analogue is the same (for me), I cheased to partecipate to the competitions or to write anything, I'm not Rich, my current salary is around 200 € per month!! I'm full of cameras and films(eBay is always a good place where to make good bussines) I can only say THANX to whoever invented all this. Peace!

Heh, what a way to get back from holiday... This is Lomography's way of telling me I have enough camera's allready (I do...). I can understand the move, though I don't like it. Guess I'll stock up on film before the 30'th and get used to the idea of spending more money on my favourite hobby (not in this shop though, sorry LSI, you're expensive compared to other shops!). I'll still write articles though, because I simply like doing it.

I totally agree with @ trash-gordon-from-outer-space. There was a time 10 years ago that every photographer and every person that I knew said anolog photography is for dinosaurs. I saw photoshops that where more than 60 years in bussines close down. I could not get my favourite films anymore like the ilford SFX for example. Polaroid is no more only some workers of the polaroid factory believed in polaroid and started PX because they knew that polaroidfilm would be missed. And I am very thankfull for lomography that they made a platform for analog photography and freaks like me. But don't get to commercial lomography. It is een wrong businnes plan you kill the love.

I don't write so much but i like to read very inspiring articles and blogs not those of lomography products but the ones of old cameras and tipsters etc. I thank all the writers for that! We all care about lomography please listen to the people who made lomography for what it is today.

Good Grief! I read the original post and hustled to spend all my piggies before my midnight, now I read that it was extended. It was hard to choose with so much of the store out of stock. I guess this will probably be my last purchase for a VERY long time if at all. I can normally buy these items from 3rd parties with better shipping options. My only incentive was piggy discounts. I agree with many here that members will respond by closing their wallets and limiting their contributions.

Hey, I get it. I mean, there's no way Lomography can afford to give away stuff. That makes sense. The point is for the company to sustain itself (after all, we want these emulsions to continue, right?) and to attract new people. I guess I'm cool with it, and I appreciate the extension on the piggies. I was upset when I thought my savings were for naught. I'll keep writing, yeah. I'd also love to see some direct prizes for competitions and the like. Maybe a 3-pack of X-Pro film for winning some hipshot showdown or something. *shrug*
