There are days when I tend forget that photography is a form of visual art. But then again, I find myself stumbling on photos like the ones here in today's Awesome Album feature, and then I remember.
Today’s Awesome Album spotlight is on The Umbrella Sessions – IR Archives by community member bccbarbosa. Taken using a Lomo Lubitel 166U that was loaded with Kodak Aerochrome film, the subject of the album seems simple enough: a mysterious woman dressed in nothing but a sheet, a sun hat and carrying an umbrella.
But when combined with the choice of film and the seemingly random locations, the resulting album looks like a series of surreal and gorgeously dreamy paintings. In fact, it somehow reminds me of one of my favorite films, the 1998 Robin Williams movie, What Dreams May Come.
The Awesome Albums series is exactly what it says on the tin — it’s a love letter of sorts from the Editors addressed to user-uploaded albums that had caught their eye and had inadvertently fallen in love with. Please understand though, they’re really just here to express their love and nothing more.
