The New Petzval Lens

The Comeback of the Year!

Today, we are thrilled to announce our Kickstarter project to reinvent the legendary 19th Century Petzval Lens. The original Petzval lens was invented in Vienna (the home of Lomography HQ!) and is one of the very first and greatest lenses of all time; by supporting us on Kickstarter, you can help us reinvent this fantastic lens for Canon EF and Nikon F mount cameras in the 21st century. For the first time, you can easily get the Petzval photographic look with 35mm analogue cameras and DSLR cameras too. You can even shoot Petzval movies using DSLR cameras!

Back Us On Kickstarter

Character Matters

Photos shot with a Petzval lens are immediately recognizable for their super-sharp focus areas, strong color saturation, wonderful swirly bokeh effect, artful vignettes and narrow depth of field. The totally distinctive look of Petzval photos is all about the fantastic lens design and goes far beyond using photo editing software and filters; the New Lomography Petzval lens is the perfect Portrait Lens!

An Engineering Breakthrough

The New Petzval Lenses will be designed and constructed by a team of optics specialists at the Zenit factory in Russia, together with Lomography. They are built from brass and feature premium glass optics. Please Support us on Kickstarter and help us bring back this fantastic lens for a whole generation of photographers!

A Sample Photo Reminder

Please note that most of the photos shown are shot with the old archival Petzval lenses, so the image resolution and chromatic dispersion is not very high. The image quality of our first working sample from Russia boasts extremely high resolution and image quality, but we are still working on a few minor issues, such as perfecting the bokeh effect. Rest assured that we are doing our best to produce an extraordinary lens!
