Monday Moodboard: Hard-faced Queens of Misadventure

Or how my sudden infatuation with a certain Scottish actor led to my discovery of an intriguing new TV drama, as well as a new artist to listen to in the mornings. (Boy, that escalated quickly.)

Blame it on the bloke named David Tennant. And while you’re at it, the Internet, too.

I’m pretty sure we’ve all found ourselves in this situation. It starts with a quick Google search, and then the next thing you know, you’re drowning in a sea of tabs and browser windows. It just so happened that on this particular jaunt, I managed to stumble upon the trailer of the fairly new British crime drama Broadchurch.

After watching the trailer, I picked up my jaw from the ground and proceeded to search and read the synopsis and the critics and audience reception. So far, so good. (In which good is an understatement.)

Set in the fictional town of Broadchurch in the Dorset coast, the show’s first season had already concluded last April, but it has been confirmed that it’ll come back in 2014. Plenty of time for others to keep up.

Aside from adding another show to my watch list, the trailer also exposed me to a new artist to listen to. Birdy is a young English musician who rose to recognition in 2011. The song that was used above was her cover of Cherry Ghost’s People Help the People and is included in her eponymous debut album.

With the exception of Without a Word, Birdy is comprised mostly of covers from other artists like Bon Iver, The xx, Phoenix and The National. Here is the official track list:

1901(by Phoenix)
Skinny Love (by Bon Iver)
People Help the People (by Cherry Ghost)
White Winter Hymnal (by Fleet Foxes)
The District Sleeps Alone Tonight (by The Postal Service)
I’ll Never Forget You (by Francis and the Lights)
Young Blood (by The Naked and Famous)
Shelter (by The xx)
Fire and Rain (by James Taylor)
Without a Word
Terrible Love (by The National)
