Richard Mosse Shoots Congo Documentary Entirely on Infrared Film

If you can still remember the stunning photo series on Congo by Irish photographer Richard Mosse, he's at it again with the surreal imagery, this time with an equally powerful documentary entirely shot on 16mm infrared film. You are definitely curious, so read on to find out more!

Last year, you must have seen the impressive photo series shot in Congo by Richard Mosse called Infra, which was monumental for the surreal purplish hues yielded by Kodak Aerochrome film. Now, the Irish photographer has taken the infrared goodness to the next level, having just finished a striking documentary shot entirely on 16mm infrared film.

In the documentary entitled “The Enclave,” Mosse once again tells about the war-torn African country, but, in his own words, not as a journalist, but as “an artist working in places and destinations where journalists also find themselves.”

If you found the infrared stills bewildering, we’re sure you’ll be even more fascinated with the motion picture. Watch the clip below to view clips from the documentary and listen to Mosse describe the filmmaking process he and his team went through to produce this masterpiece:

“The Enclave” was recently screened for the first time in the Irish Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale, and will run in the art show until the closing on November 24.
