National Geographic: The Last Roll of Kodachrome

In 2010, National Geographic covered legendary photographer Steve McCurry as he shot the final roll of Kodachrome film ever produced. You can watch fascinating video after the cut.

We all know the sad fate of the iconic Kodachrome film back in 2009. And as a sequel to this saga, you’ve probably heard how legendary photographer Steve McCurry had asked Eastman Kodak if he could have the final roll to be produced.

This symbolic last roll has already been shot, processed, and developed back in 2010, and the resulting photos can be viewed in a gallery in his website, but that does not mean we can’t get a glimpse of the process.

National Geographic was present in documenting McCurry and his journey in New York and India, and in making the last exposures count. You can watch this fascinating video below.

What do you guys think of his decision for his subjects? Would you have chosen the same?

It's a fortune that I never shot with a kodachrome, I would have been in competition with Steve McCurry....hahahaa! LOL!

@raylemon: Even if you could bear to use it my friend, you won´t be able to get it developed anymore. This era is gone forever!!! The last Lab on earth stopped developing Kodachrome in Dec. 2010!! Go and google it, if you don´t believe me ;-)
But you can develop it in b/w by yourself, because Kodachrome was a special 3 Layered B/W kind of Emulsion. Check out the b/w pics in this album: http://www.lomograph(…)river-rhine
All Kodachrome 64t developed as B/W

I watched this some time ago and I must say he did the film justice, a really fitting way to celebrate the end of an era.
