Rana had a challenging week! The mission she got, along with Boris, was to shoot 36 images that all contained the subject 'First Love'. Is Boris a matchmaker? Read on to find out!
Who did Boris end up with this time and what does your life look like?
I’m Rana Ghavami, I recently graduated from the Free University of Amsterdam. Right now I teach at the Art Academy in the field of Product Design. Next to that I work for the magazine Morf. My daily life consists of chaos that has some structure to it.
How did Boris end up with you and which mission did you get?
Paul van den Berg gave me somewhat of an impossible assignment… 36 x first love… I’ll get him back for that one though!
Did you know Lomography or was this all new to you?
Well, I do know what analogue photography is. But the entire Lomographic movement is new to me. I had never been in the Lomography Gallery Store Amsterdam even though it is really close to Paul.
Did you like having Boris to keep you company?
It was quite a challenge. I realized that I don’t interact with my surroundings that much on a daily base like a photographer does. Capturing moments and images really did take a lot of effort for me.
In what way did Boris become part of your life?
Boris went with me everywhere I went. However I didn’t always use him religiously. My first mentor at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy once told me ’it’s hard to be boring’. I now get what he meant. I wish I was boring. Bored enough to start inventing!
What did you like shooting with Boris?
I didn’t really plan anything with Boris, but I ended up capturing everyday moments in normal day lives. I quite liked that.
What is your mission for Boris’ next host?
In one word: craftsmanship.
