Also known as Deepavali, the "Festival of Lights" is on 13 November this year. As Lomographers, we appreciate light perhaps more so than most and as such would truly enjoy celebrating Diwali! An official holiday in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname, Diwali is a 5-days festival. Each day is a celebration of one of the six principal stories associated with the festival.
Street parades occur not just in India but all over the world, such as in London, and are attended by Lomographers with their cameras and flashes at the ready!
Etymologically Diwali means “row of lamps” in Sanskrit. Just check out these luminous lanterns shot with analogue cams, some of the lamps functioning as the only light-sources!
Speaking of natural light source, the Pinhole camera is photography in its purest form. Just as our eyes function as camera obscuras that use light to burn images into our minds, so does a pinhole.
