One of the world’s most celebrated film festivals, The New York Film Festival has just concluded last Sunday. But while it’s all about the motion pictures, did you know that this year’s promotional poster is one of Cindy Sherman’s photographs?
A 17-day event, the New York Film Festival highlights the best new films the world has to offer, including films by noted filmmakers as well as fresh newcomers. And over the years, its promotional poster has played an integral role. Not only that, but it has also become a medium for noted artists to showcase their talent.
And this year, in celebration of the NYFF’s 50th year, the Film Society of Lincoln Center chose to showcase one of Cindy Sherman’s celebrated Untitled Film Stills in its poster.

If we recall, Untitled Film Stills is the series that helped Sherman achieve international recognition. It is a body of work that consists of 69 photographs with Sherman depicting the various roles and clichés of women on film.
Given the series’ impact and influence, it is only understandable that FSLC has chosen it to represent the film festival’s milestone, don’t you think?
