The World's Most Expensive Lens

Earlier this year, the title of being the world’s most expensive camera was snagged by a 1923 Leica camera. And now, news about the world’s most expensive lens are making rounds… and it’s also a Leica! Find out more after the jump!

The lens is a customized Leica SPO-Telyt-R 1:5.6/1600mm lens that is roughly 4 ft. (1.2 m) long, weighs 132 lbs. (60 kg), and has a 42 cm wide end, making it the company’s longest, heaviest, and largest lens. It has a focal length of 1600mm, and is compatible with Leica’s 1.4x and 2x APO-teleconverters that will enable it to have a focal length of 2240mm and 3200mm, respectively.

Bought by Sheikh Saud bin Muhammed Al-Thani of Qatar, this baby’s price tag reached a jaw-dropping $2.07 million, and is reportedly transported via a customized four-wheel drive Mercedez Benz.
