Exciting times over at the Lomography Gallery Store Manchester! It’s buzzing with interesting projects and with all this excitement going on, Manchester HQ had to make sure it had it’s best face on!
Local illustrator and artist Chris Howkers work can be seen all over the Northern quarter, he was clearly the only man for the job when thinking of who could suitably style up HQ’s facade in a Gok Wan style.
Chris is a toy loving, cartoon watching illustrator who loves nothing more than to sketch on any scrap of paper available.
Chris uses memories of his childhood to influence his work and inject a sense of fun into whatever he is doing, whether that’s the subject matter or colours, Chris’s main agenda is to make sure he is playing each day whether that means sketching out new ideas for skateboards, t-shirts or trying new creative mediums.
We decided that this would be a great opportunity to test out our stop motion skills. Myself and assistant store manager and Lomo geek Scouse Dave set out to create an epic tale of Mancunian art, sorrow, love, passion and paint.
We decided to shoot on the beautiful limited edition Diana Mini Gold number to add a touch of glamour to our low budget wonder.
This was the first time I have used a mini Diana. Since then I have used it to take shots for the Lomography Manchester Street team and totally had to have one. So I did get one! I’ve since taken it on nigh’s out and people always want to have their picture taken holding it.
I digress! The days painting went well and I urge you all to come to Lomography Manchester HQ and check out Chris’s work!
I’ll soon be posting a link to the stop motion at the end of this article! There’s lots of workshops on and they also know how to throw a good party so make sure to pay them a visit!
