This summer blockbuster is more than just fun excitement and action! In the movie, there are many shots of Peter Parker (played by Andrew Garfield) using and holding onto his beloved film cameras. Check out the analogue goodness on The Amazing Spiderman (2012)!

This summer, one of the most anticipated films have been The Amazing Spiderman — a whole new, fresh take upon the beloved Marvel superhero.
Buzz has been everywhere about this movie, and even about the real-life romance between the stars of the film, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
But that’s not all that has caught the attention of movie goers.
Part of the character of Peter Parker, aka Spidey, is the fact that he is an experienced photographer — this was even seen in the Spiderman trilogy that was released, starting in 2002.
In the most recent version, just released last week, Peter Parker is seen with his analogue camera in many scenes of the film, starting from one of the first scenes with the grown up character in high school.
A bully taunts Peter to take a photo with his film camera of a poor student being food-forced — and Peter obviously declines.
In other parts of the movie, Peter tries to get proof of the viliain’s existence by snapping photos of it, but the camera ultimately gets crushed by the Lizard. :(
I’m not exactly sure as to what camera it is exactly, and stills are difficult to find online that are not watermarked — I could only find two.
But my guess is that Peter Parker uses a Leica in his journalistic endeavors to defeat the Lizard-being/Dr. Connors. How victoricous!
It’s fantastic to know that millions of people are seeing young characters use and embrace film, and not just to be cool and hold a camera around, but to really use the film for artistic purposes.
Go Spidey!

My heart died a little bit on the inside when Lizard crushed his camera. My boyfriend asked if it was painful to watch. I told him it was!

@neoex @plasticpopsicle @detroitlomo Thanks guys! I'm not familiar with rangefinders, so my guess was completely a shot in the dark. :)

@nattykins I know! It was definitely just a prop, though, so that comforted me.

@clemeister Yeah! That's right.. they did use an SLR viewfinder :/ sell-out method to make the shot look more familiar to the masses? And ooh nice trivia :)

On a side note... the new Wes Anderson film in theaters now, Moonrise Kingdom, features a PLETHORA of analogue cameras. Drool.

The worst spidey movie ever. Only saving grace was analog.

I saw the movie this weekend and I thought I wouldn't like it but I do! The camera is a Yashica Electro 35. It's a beautiful camera. To my sadness, the camera was destroyed maliciously. I cringed at the sound of it crushing >.<
