Cannes Film Festival 2012 Ends with 'Love'

It was a glorious two weeks of golden cinema but now the 65th Cannes Film Festival is over. You've seen the life-changing films, we've released our limited LomoKino MUBI Edition, and Michael Haneke's "Amour" (Love) has won the prized Palme d'Or! Here's a last look at the cinematic film fortnight that was Cannes 2012.

Every film buff dreams of being at the Cannes Film Festival but not everyone can go because of its exclusivity. From celebs on the red carpet outside the Palais de Festival to all the news from inside the theatres, see what went on during the 2012 fete. (Catch up if you missed last week too!)

The biggest event of the festival is the prestigious Palme d’Or awarding, decided by the Cannes Jury. Austrian director Michael Haneke took home the Golden Palm this year with his film Amour (“Love”), the melodrama about a devoted Parisian husband caring for his dying wife. It stars Emmanuelle Riva and Jean-Louis Trintignant, French actors in their 80’s.

“I am very happy to be with my actors on this stage, it makes me less shy. I would like to thank the entire Jury and Thierry Fremaux, who gave me the opportunity to present this film here. Thanks to everyone who helped me make this film. Thank you to my wife, who has been supporting me for many years. This film is in part an illustration of the promise that we made to each other. A big thank you to my two actors. They are the essence of this film.”
