2012 Cannes Film Festival : A conversation with the Dardenne Brothers

The Cannes Film Festival is like a dream place for all seventh art lovers: you can come here and listen to some of the greatest movie directors and writers talking about their work and their views of the movie industry. Here's a noticeable example of this year: a press conference simply called "A conversation with the Dardenne brothers".

Far from being unknown to Cannes, the Dardenne brothers (Jean-Pierre and Luc) have been able to leave their own mark on the Film Festival during the last 20 years. Known for their vision of the family and the society that they capture in their movies since the seventies, they made theirselves famous to the whole movie industry by winning several prizes in different categories:

Rosetta: Palme d’Or in 1999
L’Enfant: Palme d’Or in 2005
Le silence de Lorna: Prix du Scénario (best scenario) in 2008
Le gamin au vélo: Grand Prix in 2011

This year, Jean-Pierre Dardenne is the new president of the Cinéfondation and of the Short Film jury, a title that Michel Gondry had last year. The Cinéfondation is an foundation dedidated to short films, and will award three different prizes this year to young directors. This foundation is also in charge of awarding the short film Palme d’Or. Today, we’ve been invited to the press conference of the Dardenne brothers, which is called “A conversation with the Dardenne brothers”. Behind this pretty simple name, we’re sure that these two directors have lots to tell and share with the audience, about their history, their work, their influences and their views on the future of the movie industry…
