San Francisco's Urban Jungle: A Scavenger Hunt

The sun was out, the air was warm and Union Square was a flurry of activity! What a perfect day for Lomography San Francisco’s first Analogue Scavenger Hunt! Local shooters gathered to enter the competition and take a shot at winning a secret prize... A brand new Fisheye camera! Check out their photos below!

San Francisco is an urban jungle! Just around the corner from our SF Gallery Store is Union Square, which is always full of life and activity. A perfect spot for people-watching, we decided to generate a list of some common (and some not so common) sights! We put our local Lomographers to the test to see how many they could find.

With ninety minutes on the clock counting down quickly, our analogue shooters raced around Union Square hunting for items on the checklist. Some of the items were surprisingly difficult to find, and a few required engaging strangers on the street! The 10 Golden Rules of Lomography were absolutely essential. Our contestants had to Be Fast and Shoot From The Hip. As expected… Sometimes we forgot what we captured, and sometimes it didn’t matter because the results were grand, anyway!

What we asked our photographers to find:
PEOPLE: A skateboarder; A person eating ice cream; An elderly couple holding hands; A couple kissing; A person in a monochrome outfit; A young person on the trolley; A person taking a nap; A person who looks lost; A person with 3 or more shopping bags; A person with a huge camera

OBJECTS: Something heart-shaped; A red motorcycle; A tour bus; An item in leopard pattern; An animal in a window display; An over-sized food product; A pair of green shoes; An item that is golden; Yellow flowers; A dog wearing a sweater

LOCATIONS: A photo from a high place; A photo from the middle of an intersection; A self-portrait with a stranger

We also awarded bonus points for getting multiple items in a single shot, and for use of multiple exposure ! Here are some awesome examples submitted from our attendees… Can you spot the Scavenger Hunt items in each snapshot?

What a blast! We’ve got some great events coming up, so take a look at our workshop schedule and sign up today!
