Be Inspired And Help Inspire This International Women's Day

The theme for this year's International Women's Day is "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures". It's a beautiful occasion to reflect on past achievements, and the struggles that allowed for them, and to look to the future which is exactly what this year's day is all about.

Women from all over, from the United Arab Emirates to the United States are empowering themselves and others by participating in the hundreds of activities organized on this day, in celebration of International Women’s Day 2012.

However according to the news it’s felt the women in some minority groups have “a long way to go” in order to be able to have their own women leaders to honor on the day. Despite this, there are plenty of women who can be honored who aren’t leading figures, with achievements worth celebrating. Same goes for women who are a part of migrant or refugee groups.

While girls are often times left out of the loop when it comes to rallies and activities in support of women, this year the overarching theme aims at connecting girls and educating and inspiring them to be future role models. Other women not portrayed nearly enough in roles of power are women in rural environments. This year, they too are being addressed as the United Nations International Women’s Day 2012 theme is Empower Rural Women – End Hunger and Poverty.

Some great messages I came across on the official International Women’s Day Twitter account page include:
“Behind every great African fact there is an African woman”.
“We want girls & boys from young ages to learn respect for equality and value difference”.
“Remember all the women around the world who don’t have a voice and speak up for them today”.
“Groups of women & men in Kuwait will gather shortly to call for equal constitutional rights”.

Do you have your own quotes to add?
