Series: Analogue Aspirations on Analogue Lifestyle

Growing up in a fairly creative family, I’ve always had an interest in the arts — from painting to photography and more recently writing.

As a child, I loved going on holidays with my single use cameras and the wait when I put them in for developing. When digital cameras moved in to our family, I lost my love for photography, it was all too easy and it lost that magical moment of unpredictability.

When I re-discovered analogue cameras through Lomography I felt that excitement that took me right back to that sunny holiday as a child, it felt new again. I began to love every step of analogue photography, from the time spent loading the camera to the unloading and sending off for developing.

This is where I encountered a problem. I was so anxious about leaving my home that I just wasn’t going to get the opportunities to take such beautiful photos as I’d seen here on Lomography. But now I know I have to change, I have to make the effort to get out there and this is when it came to me that I can use analogue photography to improve my life. It’s the incentive to leave my home, explore and play as I did when I was younger.

In my series, Analogue Aspirations, you will be able to follow me every step of the way. Each month I will update you on my progress, from the places I’ve been to the photos I’ve taken. In the coming months I also plan to learn how to process my own film as part of my analogue journey and I’d be delighted if you’ll join me.

The international Magazine team of Lomography is currently looking for dedicated writers who are interested in contributing articles (to any section) on a regular basis. Eager and interested? Read this call-out article and we’ll be waiting for your emails!
