We know Ansel Adams for his photos of landscapes in black and white. Before that, he was a photojournalist who took assignments from publications. In the 1940’s, Fortune Magazine gave him an assignment to take photos of Los Angeles.

Before being a well-known environmental and landscape photographer, Ansel Adams took assignments as a photojournalist. In 1940, Fortune Magazine commissioned Adams to photograph life in Los Angeles, focusing on the aviation industry in the area. These photos are far from his landscape photography that is widely recognized by many. In the 1960’s, he donated the photos to the Los Angeles Public Library stating that he none of the photos he took were good enough.
