Analogue Coverage: 'These Hands Wont Hurt'

Friday, November 25th marked not only International Women's Day, but also the start of 16 Days of Action against violence - find out what happened where I work...

Fortunately for me (and the rest of the community I live in), Leeds has a dedicated victim services team who not only help out with official matters relating to victims of crime, but also organize important events to raise awareness and show support and solidarity for a variety of causes. The 25th of November was no exception and whilst some males from my organization went out to wrap a tree with a white ribbon to show support for this great cause (it is also known as white ribbon day), our office decided to redecorate the public reception area with hand prints, posters and ribbons! You have to love coming to work when your office looks like this!

Anyway, the aim was to get as many handprints together as possible to accompany the slogan “These Hands Won’t Hurt”, and although it is primarily looking at the most prevalent form of domestic violence, which is male on female, women took part as well in their commitment to never hurt another human being. This was a great public event which brought together staff from across all grades, as well as clients and members of the general public who felt strongly enough about this cause to give us their handprints in exchange for a white ribbon of their very own.
