Homeroom: An Art Exhibition on Reinterpreting Childhood Art

"Homeroom" is an ongoing art exhibition that showcases the childhood work of 20 artists', re-imagined and re-executed using their current styles and mediums. Read more after the break...

Artwork by Soey Milk. Photo from booooooom.com.

Do you remember that scene from Napoleon Dynamite where he drew the ‘mythical’ Liger (a cross between a Lion and a Tigress)? I thought that (the liger) remained a myth until I actually looked it up on the internet. I also remember how I used to imagine and make my own mix of creatures using my pencils and crayons. Some made sense in combat and practical aspects, and some were just plain ridiculous. We’ve all been there. A child’s imagination is so vast and endless.

20 artists each found an early piece of art from their childhood and re-interpreted them with their current wisdom, skill, and style. As you can see in the photos above, we have the before-and-after treatment of these innocent products of the young mind.

Featured artists include: Allison Sommers, Audrey Kawasaki, Celëne Petrulak, Chris Ryniak, Dadu Shin, Harmony Gong, JAW Cooper, Jeya, Jennifer Davis, JUURI, Katherine Brannock, Kelly Vivanco, Leung Ka-Yin, Martin Hsu, Naoshi, Nimit Malavia, Sean Mahan, Soey Milk, Tran Nguyen, Yoskay Yamamoto and Zoë Williams.

Homeroom is still ongoing. You can catch it at Subtext Gallery in California, USA. The exhibit will be open until December 11 so don’t miss it.
