The Lomography Gallery Store LA set-up 11 lovely ladies from the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles with Colorsplash cameras, film and processing as part of a collaboration with Las Fotos Project, an amazing nonprofit program that introduces photography into the lives of Latina youth in Los Angeles.
Las Fotos Project uses photography as a tool to promote a healthy form of self-expression and individuality, all while building confidence and self-esteem. This summer they are working with a very special group of girls from East Los Angeles – all members of the Girl Scouts – on a project with the theme of “Nature”.
The Lomography Gallery Store LA set-up Las Fotos so that each girl could shoot with a Colorsplash camera and Lomography 400 iso color negative film on their most recent trip to the Getty! Check out some of the photos from their excursion!
This talented group of girls made a trip last month to the Griffith Observatory where they captured images of the natural wildlife, then took the cameras home to create double-exposures with self portraits or scenes from their day-to-day with family members. Mia, age 15, created this photograph which shows an image of nature and an image of her grandmother taken during a family gathering. During the Las Fotos Project creative writing workshop, Mia created this acrostic poem titled “Grandma” to accompany the photo.
All of these girls work will be exhibited at this years Girltopia, put on by the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles and the Lomography Gallery Store LA is thrilled to be working with them! Keep your eyes peeled on details to come for the exhibition!
