Analogue Coverage of Public Events: Air Force Open House 2011

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Open House 2011was held at Paya Lebar Air Base on the 28th and 29th of May. At the Open House, the latest hardware of the 3rd Generation RSAF, such as the F-15SG fighter aircraft and S-70B, were in touching distance of viewers.

Today, the RSAF possesses some of the world’s most advanced weapon systems. The Open House 2011 was staged to educate the public on the RSAF organizational structures, operating concepts and people.

In the first photo, one can see that the event was well attended even though there was slight drizzle in the morning.

The main highlight of the Open House was the crowd favorite, “Aerial Display.” This year, the 30-minute show featured fast-paced actions by the F-15SG fighter aircraft, F-16C/D fighter aircraft , AH-64D attack helicopters, AS-332 Super Puma and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.

Other attractions included the “Static Display,” where the public could go up close and personal with the various fighter jets and helicopters. In addition, there was also an “Arming Demonstration” where weapon load crews from the flying squadrons performed aircraft arming. It was a thrill to see the crew work as a team to load munitions on the F-15SG and F-16D Blk 52+ fighter aircraft and the AH-64D attack helicopter.

Another popular crowd favorite were the aircraft rides. The choices were the C-130 Hercules, Fokker-50 and Chinook helicopter.

All in all, it was a fun and exciting event that shouldn’t be missed by military or aircraft buffs!
