So This Is A Story All About How My Life Got Flip Turned Upside Down...

When i was appointed to be the manager of the brand new London LomoLab i knew i was a very lucky man. Here is the story of how it got made...

Contributing to the analogue future is something very close to me – in my spare time I make electronic sculptures with analogue televisions. Standing in the basement of the lomography store east London I feel a little less odd when I realize that the engineers helping me set up the machines also brought their own lab coats from home.

From the second I saw the lab coming soon sign I knew I had to step up, play my part in the analogue future.

There was a certain thrill to covertly cross processing at my old lab and as the analogue expert the other lab operators used to leave the lomography films for me to print.
The last 3 weeks have been hectic to say the least with my experience of photo labs limited to keeping one going rather than starting one up. This lab is much more important than any I’ve worked in before. Offering unique services tailored to the unique cameras that we sell brings its own challenges
In a lot of cases, modifying and hacking the lab machinery to deliver consistent results on exclusive lomographic film & print standards.

In one instance the company that makes the machines were unaware that the machine could process medium format. This led to a 30-minute apocalypse resolved by Lomolab Austria showing me how to trick the machine into thinking medium format was 126 film.
It still pains me every time I have to turn a customer away because I’m not ready to print but this’ll all change soon when we can accept orders and I’m looking forward to seeing all the amazing pictures people take, all on film.

The LomoLab will launch on the 11th March, 2011 at..

117 Commercial Street

It's in my diary and the films are stacking up in my desk drawer. I have a wedding that weekend too... so I'll be back the next week as well.
