The Last Kodachrome Christmas

Have you ever experienced a Kodachrome Christmas? Most of us will probably never do so as a last hurrah of sorts, we'd like to show you some fond holiday scenes shot with Kodachrome!

Do you remember those old catalogs that you used to browse through as a kid? They showed the ideal and nostalgic holiday menu that we’ve associated with the season. The guys from Chow.com recreated a couple of these scenes and reshot them with the same film used back then – Kodachrome! Sadly, this shoot is probably the last time we’ll be seeing the iconic film in all its contrasty splendor. So let’s all raise our glasses to Kodachrome. The holidays in the following years wouldn’t be the same without you. You shall be missed!

Back about 2000 I read in some article that a well focused, well exposed 35mm Kodachrome 25 slide is the equivalent of at least 80 megapixels of information, and a 6x9cm Kodachrome 64 120 slide is about 450. The stuff sold steadily to a certain market right up to the end. For Kodak, it seems more a failure of courage rather than sales. Pity. Same with Aerochrome III. I wish someone like Fotochemika or Arista would pick up these formulas. Not likely, though, too capital intensive for manufacturing.
