My Lomo Story by Babo

“It all started in a beautiful winter morning with the sun shining and snow...”, wait! That’s the way the horror novel I’m planning to write someday is going to begin! Actually my lomo story began in a casual Summer afternoon with an overcast sky! I went to a friend’s store for lunch (Quintal Bioshop) and I found there a Holga exhibition made by a friend of hers. The pictures caught my eyes and I was completely awestruck by them. She explained to me what kind of camera was used to make those pictures and she told me of the existence of the lomographic embassy. Still thinking on those marvelous pictures I went out of the store and went to a cash machine and I saw the Lomoférias sign (Lomoférias 2008), and decided to give it a try, so I went to the embassy and bought my first lomo… a fisheye 2!

After that I fumbled a bit to manage to get the film inside it and start using it (since I hadn’t used film cameras for about 7 years)

When I got home I showed it to my wife and daughter, and we gave it a try, playing around with it for a while, and after my daughter went to sleep I went for a walk and took some night shots to test the camera, experimenting with multiple exposures and bulb setting for the first time in my life. The next day I managed to finish the film and got it developed and… WOW! What the hell happened here!? Is that me with that big balloon of a head? What’s that colored haze around my daughter? This is great! Just look at these shots!

Well… that was in the beginning of August, and now I already own the Fisheye 2, the Actionsampler, the Supersampler, the Holga 135bc, the LC-A+ and my latest aquisition and love, my Hong Mew Diana F+. And Lomo just keeps giving us new ways to explore our creative desires (cant wait till Santa brings me my Lubitel 166+)!

Well, it sure looks like a new love has blossomed inside me!
