My LomoStory by metalassault

The year was ’07, I was in San Fran, and visiting the college I wanted to go to. While wondering the streets, my brother saw a comic museum he was interested in. We went inside and paid for him to get into the museum area. While waiting for him, I wondered around in the gift shop area.

The year was ’07, I was in San Fran, and visiting the college I wanted to go to. While wondering the streets, my brother saw a comic museum he was interested in. We went inside and paid for him to get into the museum area. While waiting for him, I wondered around in the gift shop area.

I was about to ask the clerk where the bathroom is, but he was busy with a couple that were buying this camera. And I saw the camera they were buying, the box was colorful, and it was retro looking. I cant remembered vividly, but the letters on the box might have spelled out the word “HOLGA”. I asked the clerk two questions: 1. Where is the bathroom, and 2. What’s so special about that camera?

He said “its made out of plastic, and the lens is made out of plastic, and when you take pictures, it comes out weird and funky”. I was surprised, in my whole life, I thought a cameras job was to take a boring, focused, picture. I asked “how much do they cost?” “Well this one here is 20 bucks, but that one other there is 50” said the clerk. In my mind I was like “wow! Digital cameras costs an arm and leg, and these cameras are cheap and produce interesting photos!”

My family left San Fran and went back to Hawaii two days later. I finished High school months later and I got a graduation gift of $300 total, from my family and aunties. And what did I spend 300 bucks on? Videogames, food, new clothes, and last but not least, I ordered the Holga 120CFN.

I anxiously waited 2 weeks for it to arrive. During the second week, I constantly ran to my front door every hour of every day, to see if the mailman dropped it off. But the day finally came, when I opened my door to see a brown packaged sitting there. I picked it up, ran inside my room, and opened it.

And there it was, the Holga, smiling at me saying “I’m the best mother f—-ing camera in the world!” Eventually, I discovered the other lomographic cameras, like the fisheye and the LC-A+ (which I want next but I cant afford.
