My LomoStory by makeyuu

I think I had a friend in school that first showed me some lomographic camera on a website. I first did not show any interest but later I found the official lomographic website and that was when I first entered the enormous, warm and analogue world of these unpredictable, oddly shaped cameras. Sitting in school and studying half the time, wandering through the website the other half. There were so many pictures to look at, so much to read about these eye opening lenses. Lomography gave me this great feeling. To see the world as something great, discovering all the interesting details and documenting, documenting and documenting. Always having your camera with you, looking for shootable things. The next step would be very natural: buying these tools of living.

First, I wanted an LC-A but came to realise that it was too expensive for my high school budget. I liked the Holga pictures even more but from what I had read, I understood that the film was a bit different. I hadn’t ever heard of 120 films before that. So, as my dad gave me some money to buy clothes for, I took the metro for the city. The house of culture had Holga Starter Kits in their info shop; I had put that on my mind. So I went there with the money in my hand and got myself a very own Holga camera. The feeling of the Holga was intoxicating, just knowing that this amazing thing was lying in the bag. It was just like meeting someone you only had talked with over the internet. I knew everything about it, in theory! It was a lot of fun shooting the very first roll. And the second one and the third and the…And it is still a lot of fun. The not knowing- factor.

A lot of people have reacted on the lomographic cameras that I now own. Once, a girl (probably a bit drunk) at a concert told me: “that’s the oldest camera I’ve ever seen!” and then laughed. Also, the guys at the lab are wondering why I always give them old, expired film and why I shoot overlapping pictures so they can’t cut the film. So I tell them it’s my doubles! Just yesterday he told me: “Why are you always giving me this shitty film”. I think I have to tell them my big secret some time…

Great picture of the dog. I love its simplicity and how it's perfectly out of focus.
