Henk Schiffmacher is often referred to as the "Dutch king of tattoos". He opened a museum in Amsterdam to display his personal collection of tattoo-related objects. As a lover and owner of several tattoos, I wanted to visit his museum.

When I moved to my present home town of Amersfoort, I was relieved to find a place that caters to my second favorite analogue pleasure: music. I can get my fix in the excellent record store de Nootzaak.

In the digital era there seems to be little space left for the old-fashioned photo albums. People tend to organize their pictures the digital way, which leaves one question to be answered: Where do all those old albums go? The Netherlands' second city has launched yet another new festival: the China Light Festival. From 7 December 2012 to 14 February 2013 from 16.30 to 22.00 every day, visit the park next to the Euromast to experience a little bit of China in Rotterdam. Highly recommended for some awesome lomo long exposures!

The quiet village of Soesterberg used to be a thriving airfoce airbase. These days the airstrip is only used as a shortcut for cyclists. The planes have all gone to the lovely airforce musem (motto: where time flies) on the other side of town.

A couple of years ago, just after Christmas, I had a stopover in the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the major hub for the airline KLM. It was a very busy time of year, so I knew that any airport would be busy, but I was surprised by how big this airport was, let along the amount of people flying through there!

Together with the windmills, tulips fields are the most famous landscape in the Netherlands. In 1593, the first tulip was placed in Dutch soil and since then the country has been in multi-coloured bloom.

Architecture rules volontarly broken make crazy cube houses in Rotterdam. The cube houses (or Kubuswoningen in Dutch) were built in 1984 by architect Piet Blom in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands. These could have been common houses if they hadn't been turned at 45 degrees and placed on concrete pylons!

No matter how many times I pass by this place, it never ceases to inspire me to take at least a photograph or two with whatever film camera I have with me that day. NDSM is a former shipyard in north Amsterdam and is the center for alternative culture these days. This vast area of 84,000 m2 makes up the NDSM Hall, workshops and artistic studios along with two big dimension cranes and two huge ship slipways.

Fancy a day at the beach? Maybe Scheveningen is the place for you: You can go swimming or windsurfing, even bungee-jumping is possible at the pier. Or just get some ice cream and hang out in the sun or take a walk in the dunes.

For those who like animals, the Artis Zoo in Amsterdam is an amazing place to spend a beautiful day in! You really feel like you're in an oasis of peace at the heart of the city. At Artis Zoo, one can easily relax and only hear the animals living there, which are up to 700 species!

When most people think of The Netherlands, they think of the partying associated with Amsterdam or the political centre that is The Hague. Directly between the two on the map you will find Leiden, known for it's student vibe, it's many canals, and the beautiful Dutch Architecture.
