A little visual recollection of the Hop Farm Music Festival in Kent, not so well known yet but showing some serious promise. The Hop Farm Music Festival takes place in a 90-acre field just outside of Paddock Wood Kent in the South East of England. It came about because the general feeling was that people were a bit sick of over branding and they really wanted a smaller scale gig that was about music and not sponsorship and brands. There is no special treatment there and children are welcome - and those under 12 years of age get in for FREE!

Lounge on the Farm is a local music festival on Merton Farm in Canterbury which caters to all ages. Held every July, we were able to enjoy good weather the last two years (although maybe it was too hot in 2010?!) The festival is all about good up-and-coming acts, comedy, and film with many stages hosting different types of music with the largest crowd gathering in the cow shed. It’s a family friendly, all ages’ festival with something for everyone.

I have a love-hate relationship with "La Mer du Nord". Having grown up near the beach in Australia, the way the sea should be (waves, blue, clean), I have a little bit of hesitation when it comes to the sea in Belgium.

Between Westende and Nieuwpoort on the Belgian Coast lies the former Camping Crystal Palace. The camping has its location in dunes near the beach. Due to very strict environmental laws the camping had to close a few years ago. Owners who couldn't afford to move or demolish their caravans, let all their holiday belongings and moved away. The wind and climate of the North sea did the rest.

When Remy Callot died in 2001, his house was intended for destruction to build a traffic circle. But Remy Callot had spent his retirement to decorate his garden's walls with mosaic. So, in 2006, "the house of the fool" as it was called, was finally destroyed but walls were preserved and now, instead of a roundabout, it is question to build a museum of Art Brut. I truly hope it will!

My first time in northern France in the region of Boulogne was good fun. Though the trip was solely for the purpose of golf, the little town of Wimereux proved to be quaint and very homey (and the golf course superb!). As all French villages and seaside towns go, it had that lovely holiday feel to it. Lots of narrow streets, old buildings and locals to capture on film. The coast is a great place to have a stroll and to admire the old fort which guards France from the north as well.

During the First World War, my region, the Pas-de-Calais was the place of many battles. In Vimy (my city), on April 1917, a great offensive was launched by Canadian Corps, the battle was terrible and many soldiers were killed there, but the Canadian succeeded in taking the ridge of Vimy to the Germans.
