  • Brighton Town

    Brighton Town
I live in Brighton and I have lived here for just under 1 year. I moved from London to live in Brighton because I wanted to live in a house close to the sea. Brighton is an amazing little City on the South Coast of England. In fact, they call it London by the sea. I love Brighton because it has so much to offer. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. There is also the added attraction of being on the coast. Generally, coastal areas in the UK tend to be a bit dated and scummy but not Brighton. The beach at Brighton changes every different day you visit. In the winter the waves crash against the coast and in the summer it is like a still swimming pool.

  • Paddle Steamer “Ryde Queen”

    Paddle Steamer “Ryde Queen”
This poor abandoned ship is steeped in history. She was built in 1937 for the Southern Railway Company, weighed some 566 tonnes and was finished to a very high standard. She had a promenade deck with observation lounge and a large saloon, restaurant, tea room, smoking room and Ladies' room on the main deck. She operated an all-year round service between Portsmouth and Ryde on the the Isle of Wight before the outbreak of World War II. During the war she served first as a minesweeper, was converted into an anti-aircraft vessel and took part in the Normandy Landings in June of 1944 and was returned to her normal passenger service after the war in 1945. She was eventually replaced by more modern motor vessels but still operated occasionally as a relief vessel. I can remember as a young child the excitement, if when we travelled to the mainland we were fortunate enough to sail on the PS Ryde which was then the last Paddle Steamer working on the Solent.
  • Spinnaker Tower

    Spinnaker Tower
I went to Portsmouth a couple of weeks ago and was told to visit Spinnaker Tower. My first thought was: Oh, what a touristy rip-off, do I have to go there? But when I got to Portsmouth the first thing I saw was that enormous, futuristic-looking tower and I was immediately fascinated.
