Alright I will come out with the outstanding trademark of this landmark right now: It is is the largest parade ground in all Europe - big tush - even bigger tush. Well, this said we have to say of course that parade grounds are not so spectacular in most places of the world, but in the former Soviet Union averything militaristic had a certain sex-appeal. And of course the freedom square is adorned with massive Lenin. One icon of the past, who still feels the force of the future. And Lenin reamins the dominant figure of the square, overlooking it and having a daily market in his very back.

Well, there are not many cities that have several ways of writing, but in case of Kharkiv, Charkow, Kharkov, Харків or Харьков. It depends where you are from and maybe what political position you have, if you use the Ukrainian, Russian or International version of the second largest city of the Ukraine. And that depicts already the major conflict of the Ukraine.

Hi there! It's Yegor speaking, I'm from Kharkov, Ukraine. There are some interesting articles by wil6ka about our town, and they are pretty nice. Our daily environment suffered from imperial influence (before 1917), during the Soviet era and now, surely, global culture is hitting us (good or bad). Kharkov is an eclectic and interesting place but my post covers a hangout place in the outskirts.

This was an endeavor of the spontaneous kind, and it was beautiful. Recently I worked Kharkov, the second biggest city in the Ukraine, for to weeks and on a Thursday I was checking the live-results of the German football teams in the UEFA Cup.
