For my boyfriend’s 21st birthday, we wanted our first bar experience to be in one of our favorite places: downtown Portland! I’m 22, but have been anxiously waiting for the chance to go out with him, so we celebrated the night as if we were both turning 21!

For my boyfriend’s 21st birthday on July 30th, I told him I booked us a room at a Best Western for our overnight stay in Portland, when in actuality I had booked it with Hotel Fifty. Surprise!

2010 will see Kumoricon's 8th year of existence in downtown Portland. Usually taking place over Labor Day weekend, K-Con (as people call it) is a 3 day Japanese culture/anime festival known for the elaborate and often home-made costumes that attendees almost exclusively wear.

The Portland Classical Chinese Garden is an amazing place to take the time to literally “smell the roses” or in this case the jasmine. The scent of sweet jasmine is all around in the totally Zen garden right in the midst of downtown Portland, Oregon.

I took a long walk around the campus of my alma mater, The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington earlier this month. Of course I didn't go empty-handed, I brought along my trusty Pentax K1000 and a box camera that I had modified with a pinhole-sized aperture.

Multnomah Falls are located about 20 minutes east of Portland off the 84 freeway. I have been there many times in the Summer and this was the first time I was there in the Winter. It was in the middle of an Arctic Storm so the walls around the falls were completely frozen!

Every time I go to Portland I discover new things and find new favorite places while I'm there. My absolute favorite spot is Pioneer Square. Smack in the middle of downtown, this “outdoor living room" as it’s called can sometimes host flower festivals, be dressed up around the holidays, or simply provide a relaxed place to chill on some stairs or play hacky-sack with friends (it doesn't hurt that there's a Starbucks located at the square, too).

My boyfriend and I took an impromptu road trip to Portland and experienced first hand some of the things that make Portland great: beer, Voodoo donuts, vintage shopping, but mainly just a laid back vibe and uniqueness that epitomizes the city.
