What a better way to spend New Year's day than taking a historic hike along the great walls of Namhansanseong Fortress in southern Seoul. Following the fortress wall that snake eight km along the peaks of Namhan Mountain, we spent the day hiking through massive gates and around Buddhist temples, and to top it off, some spectacular views of New Year's Day in Seoul.

Kyunghee University’s Seoul campus is considered as the most beautiful campus in the Korean nation. In the spring, the cherry blossom trees bloom lushly around the campus, making walking to school a pleasurable experience rather than a dreary drudge.

One of the highlights of my year was my solo Seoul sojourn last September. It served as a late birthday present for myself, and is actually something that I've always wanted to do - given the time (and money). In the northern reaches of Seoul, Bukhansan National Park - 북한산국립공원- spreads its rocky wings over 78.45 km and 6 districts of Seoul. I spent a day hiking to the highest peak Baegundae -백운대, which at 837m gives you the most spectacular view of Seoul below.

Just south of Seoul’s international airport, lies the beautiful but tiny Muuido Island. Its proximity to Seoul makes it a popular destination for tourists and day trippers alike who visit the island to hike up some small mountains, relax at the beach and chow down on some delicious fresh seafood.

Want to be hardcore? Want to test your endurance? Then why not climb a 1,157.2 m (3,797 ft) mountain in the middle of the snowy winter cold. And why not get lost in the mountain while you are at it, hiking through the fresh snow only to end up at a Buddhist temple where monks proceed to give you chocolate and drive you off the mountain. Yup, my hike on Yongmunsan Mountain (용문산) just 45km out of Seoul, definitely gave us an exciting day trip away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In an unassuming block near Konkuk University, next to a convenience store, stands a little coffee and flower shop named Letter From Home. Its windows are lined with potted plants, one might walk on by thinking that it is a flower shop. But wait, push open the door, and the enticing scent of pancakes and coffee wafts out.

I believe that most people will think of delicious food, shopping malls, and great weather whenever they talk about Seoul but for me, the deepest impression that Seoul left on me is the great people that live there. They are truly friendly, helpful, and warm.

We spent a fun afternoon in the largest indoor theme park in the world. This amusement park is called "Lotte World". The recreation complex also has an outdoor part called "Magic Island".

Right in the middle of the ever-expanding urban jungle that is Seoul, a masterpiece of a park called, “Seoul Forest” has been developed. With over 400,000 trees and 100 different animals, it responds to the locals' need for nature and a break from the hustle and bustle of this concrete city.
