A small town on the Preguica River (Laziness River), its riverside setting and sandy patches gives it a charm of its own. Five buses a day run from São Luís, last one at 6:30 PM, 4 hours, 25 R$. Barreirinhas is a dusty town, it has a main street and a few dirt roads and lots of mango trees .

Alcantara is a strange island, it seems the time have stopped. Sometimes, some places, make you think you’re in an abandoned village, churches, houses, streets, fields, all belong to another time.

Uma pequena cidade no rio Preguiças, suas margens com faixas de areia dão o charme da cidade. Cinco ônibus diários partindo de São Luís, o último sai às 6:30 da tarde, 4 horas, R$25,00. Barreirinhas é uma cidade empoeirada, tem uma rua principal e algumas estradas de terra e muitas mangueiras.
