Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?
I’m a computer graphic designer who works in a cinema association in Rousset, France. Every year, we organize two main events named Court Bouillon; a short film day on October and nouv.o.monde, a film festival regarding breaking news held every March. I am passionate about “Metropolis” to the film “Where the Wild Things Are." I like drawing and illustrating children’s books and I post sketches, doodles or paintings in my blog http://vincegribouillis.canalblog.com.
Describe the LomoKino in five words.
Magical, melancholic, creative, spontaneous, funny.
How did you like shooting with the LomoKino?
I like shooting my friends when they do stupid things or say silly jokes during their walks. I like the blur aspect and jerky moves [it has like] old silent movies. The melancholic conversion reality.
What or who has inspired you to purchase and use the LomoKino?
For a long time, I have been looking for something to make short movies with like the Super 8. But thanks to the LomoKino, we have easily found this vintage aesthetic. It has always been surprising and amazing to discover the result of the camera. It’s simple fun when we make a LomoKino movie; to see things which are moving, just like a cartoon animator who would create a character. It’s magic between animation and Super 8 family movies. I have learned in details a lot of things like in particular the making of the split screen or the imitation of pixel styles like in old video games.
Any funny or strange encounters you’ve had with it?
Once I was seating in the beach and a Pyrenean Mountain dog came in the same time to eat my LomoKino while filming!
If you could shoot any person alive or dead (or imaginary) with your LomoKino, who would it be and why?
The artist that I would like to film is Michel Gondry because I think that he would give me some advices. Modeling aspects, special effects, and the melancholic spirit of its cinema mean perfectly on Lomography. I would like to see him making a clip, a short movie or a “sweded movie”:http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/sweded-films with the LomoKino.
Kindly share to us any LomoKino movie you love the most.
I like the movie Isabel by satomi. It’s spontaneous, funny, the colors are shining, and I feel that they had a lot of fun making it. There is a beautiful communicative energy.
I find this spirit in To Be A Poser by beemotion even more accomplished and sophisticated.
Any future plans with your LomoKino? More shoots or a full-length film perhaps?
I still have to develop some photographic film about hanging out with friends. I want to make a fictional short movie and mix it with my cartoons. I have made the story board and I hope that I will be able to shoot it as soon as possible.
Your advice to future LomoKino users.
Never forget your LomoKino when you go out. It’s always frustrating to miss a nice thing because we forget it at home!
