Music Video of Futarino Veronica feat. LomoKino

The electro-pop music duo “Futarino Veronica” makes music with a rhythm making machine from 1977. That probably seems a bit off-the-wall, but their music sounds good! They are releasing their self-titled new album “Futarino Veronica” this April. Believe it or not, the music video for one of the songs from their new album, “Oyasumi Pokkie” was taken with the Lomography LomoKino. Here's an interview with Futarino Veronica!

Please introduce yourself!

Hi there. My name is Shonika, I play bass for Futarino Veronica. Hayato Tsuji is another guy who plays piano and creates our unique message and lyrics. We create electro pop music together.

Have you ever used any other Lomography camera before?

I got my Diana F+ first. I love it, and I still use it.

Describe LomoKino with your own words.

The Taming of the Shrew? Sometimes I cannot really control the full potential of it, but then you can get an interesting result through the unpredictability of the LomoKino. I think that is the key to the LomoKino.

Oyasumi Pokkie

I see the song “Oyasumi Pokkie” is one of the songs from your first album “Futarino Veronica”. Now, I am so in love with Pokkie, is he your dog or Hayato’s?

Pokkie was found on the street. Hayato picked him up and took care of him. He is now 17 years old, getting older. Lately he has not been doing so well. I am quite worried about him.

How did you like shooting your own music video with LomoKino? What was the main idea for this music video? Tell us the story of the song as well!

The rhythm machine is really old, so we wanted to make the music video look vintage as well, and then I thought LomoKino was the best way to go. The theme for the song “Oyasumi Pokkie” is ‘escape’. The story itself is about the dog Pokkie, his naptime and walking time outside, but the story is a bit deeper. Sometimes we wish we could go somewhere far away, we wish could sleep forever. But then we cannot really do that. We go for a walk, then we go home, and when we wake up, we need to get up. I try to put some imaginary feeling of ‘what if’ we keep sleeping, or if we keep walking without going home, into this song of “Oyasumi Pokki”.

Any memories you remember from shooting themusic video with LomoKino?

Pokkie was quite tired while we made him walk; his legs were bleeding from too much walking. I felt bad, but he tried so hard for us. That was quite memorable.

I heard that you are planning to shoot another music video with LomoKino again. Where can we listen your songs?

I actually used LomoKino for another song called “See You in ICU”. We used the funeral car as a background in the video, but it was so hard to find the traditional ones since people have stopped using them these days. It is sad to see old traditions fading away. See You in ICU

Tell us about your first album.

The key ingredient is the sound that we create with an old rhythm machine from 1977. It is very catchy. It sounds like pop music, but it is not. I hope you can enjoy our musical style. We use creative language for the song lyrics, but we try to use certain keywords to describe the title and/or theme of the song. If you can feel the theme of the song, and melody, I think that is the best way to describe our songs. Some songs are created by the idea of a hospital, medical care, and more. We use the artwork of x-ray artist Nick Veasey, to maximize his work as a album art, we also created special case for it as well.

Woof

You two are so mysterious! Could you share some of your secrets, or something you are lately addicted to?

Secret.. Well, Hayato is OCD. You can see the above photo, he does not even touch Pokkie without putting gloves, and does not look like he is taking good care of Pokkie.. One more thing, he cannot compose any music piece unless he is unemployed.. He calls himself ‘pure NEAT’. (In Japanese term, people call people who are Not Educated And Trained person NEAT.) I can’t help him sometimes.

It would be really cool to go around the places I used to live, and shoot the scenery and put them together. I am sure I did have my favorite places back then. Maybe the view from the window, empty land, could be meaningless for others, but then it would be such a good piece of memory for me to create a project with LomoKino.

Electro-pop music for kids?!【Futarino Veronica】

Made in 1977 by Roland, this cheap rhythm machine creates a monotonous but very catchy sound. Hayato Tsuji and Shonika create all the songs, and Hayato is the one who creates the lyrics with his own creative language. Their debut album “Futarino Veronica” is designed for kids who are 0-3 years old, Hayato and Shonika say that these are electro-pop music for kids. However, these songs got so much potential more than that.
