LomoAmigos From The Worst Pop Band Ever Take Us On Tour - Part One

Say hello to Adrean, Chris, LEO37, Gordon and Tim of The Worst Pop Band Ever. These guys not only have a name that will grab your attention, but they’ve also provided us with a first-hand La Sardina account of all the fun and shenanigans that happened on their cross-Canada tour. Check out Part 1 after the jump!

The Worst Pop Band Ever consists of a group of 5 fellas, who play jazz music. Who would’ve thought, right? After playing a few gigs together and realizing they all had an openness for experimenting with jazz, they decided to turn this into a band, in fact, the worst pop band. Ever. Having each played with different artists such as Feist, Chantal Kreviazuk and Blue Rodeo, the WPBE came together with simple melodies and repeating hooks, improvising on tunes and doing everything a pop band shouldn’t be doing. We liked that, y’know, not worrying about any rules (Hint: Golden Rule #10), so we sent them off with a La Sardina as they traveled across Canada. Drummer Tim Shia gives us the lowdown on all the happenings along with some candid photographs!

In The Beginning…

So in typical Worst Pop Band Ever fashion, we lost the entire first roll of film that we were so generously given by the Lomography folks. Nevertheless, we were able to salvage enough of the poorly lit and incredibly blurry photos (apparently we’re also the worst photographers ever) for this little photo blog of our third Western Canadian tour aka the Third Worst Tour Ever.

For those of you new to the group, courtesy of some old school selfies, let me introduce you to:

Adrean “the Maltese Falcon” Farrugia on keys

Chris “the Baby Faced Ginger Haired Wonder” Gale on Sax

LEO37 “the Yellow Peril” on turntables

Gordon “Lakeman” Mowat on bass

and yours truly, Tim “the Tonya Harding of Jazz” Shia on Drums

We started the tour with a show at the super cool Musideum in Toronto. We lost those photos. Then we landed in Winnipeg (-30 C in April ?!!) for a pair of great shows but we lost those photos too.

We did get some pics of us driving through the snow covered prairies though.

We stopped off in Edmonton to play the amazing Yardbird Suite and do a clinic at Grant Macewan College. However on the way to Edmonton, we stopped of in Vegreville and had some fun. A good friend of the band’s father is actually the Mayor and we were challenged to take a photo at the World’s Largest Pysanka (Ukranian Easter Egg). We obliged.

This is perhaps not what they wanted but we do have a name to live up to. We did get some cool pics of the green room at the club where performing bands get to sign the wall. LEO37 did ours the last time out.

Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 of the Third Worst Tour Ever!
