Holiday LomoAmigo: Traaaart

A life with art and a life with huge plans -- this is how our Holiday LomoAmigo sees his coming year after spending his holidays the analogue way!

But of course he would still be living the analogue life as long as he could. Capturing wonderful moments the Lomographic way, we have got to welcome traaart and get a sight of his Lomographs!

Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

I recently made selling artwork as my main source of income, so I am now a starving artist by profession. I paint live at concerts, screen print t-shirts, make smaller paintings at home in the studio, put together zines, and of course, LOMO to my heart’s content. I love finding a new spot to shoot with a cool combination of cameras and films. I’ll be moving to NYC in the spring to pursue more gigs and shoots!

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?

I was on a road trip last summer through upstate New York and on the way home we stopped through Brooklyn to see a friend. One day as we were walking around, we stopped into this store in Williamsburg, and I saw the Supersampler on the shelf. I had picked up film earlier in the year after getting super bored of shooting digital for 10 or so years so this looked like a way to have even more fun with film! It wasn’t long after that that I bought an LC-A+ and then really, really dove into the whole world of Lomography with no turning back!

What are your plans for the holidays?

I’d like to travel but will probably end up hanging out with family and friends who I only get to really see once a year.

Any New Year’s resolutions for 2013?

MOVE TO NYC!

If you could recommend one movie and one song to everyone, what would they be?

Wow, thats a hard question! I might have to go with Clerks; its such a hilarious movie, and on closer inspection is very artistic. Kevin Smith’s choice of black and white film was purely budgetary, but it lends itself very well to the gritty, real, and yet still hilarious, scenes.

Song choice is even harder. I’ll go with one song that I haven’t grown tired of even after continuous listening for 10 months. Active Child – Weight of the World.

What’s your favourite analogue camera to shoot with? Why?

It’s got to be my trusty LC-A+ RL. It’s easy to have at all times and is certainly the fastest to shoot with. It’s so tiny and unassuming! People rarely notice when I’m shooting from the hip and you can catch those fleeting moments with confidence!

What’s the next camera you’d like to get your hands on?

I’d really like to get my hands on a nice medium format camera from Lomography, either the Lubitel 166+ or the new Belair Cityslicker. I have a Holga, but if I’m shooting medium format film, why would I want blurry shots, why not shoot crisp clear shots! That or a LC-Wide. That camera looks badass.

What’s your favourite memory from this year?

It’s been a really fun year, but I’m going to have to go with driving across the country and going through Kansas and Colorado. Seeing that part of the States and having a bunch of cool cameras with me was unbeatable.

And now for the toughest question – What’s been your favorite photo from the past year? Why?

Technically, this is my favorite combination of cameras for shooting doubles; the LC-A+ and the Supersampler. And I love xpro’ing Tungsten film. Aesthetic-wise It’s super dreamy and surreal with the fragments of the ski lift and the clouds. Plus I love the way the clouds have almost as much presence in the composition as the figures do. For a mid-August photo, the mood is very pensive and grey, and yet there’s still a couple warmish tones in there.

Any holiday shout-outs or tips for your fellow Lomographers?

Don’t ever feel bad about hoarding film! You can never have too much of your favorite emulsion!
