Community LomoAmigo Guanatos Talks About 'The Magic Video Machine'

Someone who has been on the creative side of things for quite a while, it is most likely for this guy to pick up the LomoKino and produce interesting analogue movies!

Meet Mario Ferrer or more known as guanatos in the Lomography Community as he continue to discover, play, and experiment with our analogue movie maker, the LomoKino!

Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

I’m originally from Guadalajara, Mexico and I work as a creative/copywriter – that means I spend most of my day thinking about new ideas for products and creating advertising campaigns about them on different media. It’s a pretty wacky job but I love it.

I enjoy stand-up comedy, lucha libre (Mexican wrestling), photography, creative advertising, rock music, cinema, reading, surfing the web, and tequila of course (only once in a while).

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?

I discovered Lomography and the Community by accident at my university during a photography conference in 2007. A couple of weeks later, I got myself a Diana+ and I’ve been carrying a Lomography camera on my bag ever since.

Describe the LomoKino in five words.

Enigmatic, fun, creative, lightweight, easy

My First LomoKino

How did you like shooting with the LomoKino?

It’s awesome! I love not being able to control 100% what you’re doing, it helps you loosen up and enjoy the experience.

What or who has inspired you to purchase and use the LomoKino?

I know I’m running into a big cliché with this one, but my dad and his Super 8 camera are a big inspiration. He used to make lots of family films when I was a kid and he would play them for us on weekends, it was like my personal movie theatre right on our living room.

Any funny or strange encounters you’ve had with it?

My five year-old niece calls it ‘the magic video machine’, because she can’t understand why I can’t show her the results on the back of the LomoKino right away; like her daddy does on his digital video camera.

LomoKino Workshop Short Film

If you could shoot any person alive or dead (or imaginary) with your LomoKino, who would it be and why?

I would definitely shoot ""El Santo"”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Santo he’s my childhood idol and favorite Luchador off all time! I’d love to go back in time and shoot one of his historic matches!

Kindly share to us any LomoKino movie you love the most.

I think this LomoKino movie on a roller coaster made by snoop is amazing!

Going For A Rollercoaster Ride by snoop

Any future plans with your LomoKino? More shoots or a full-length film perhaps?

I like the 30 second format; you have to be quick enough to tell a story, it’s a real challenge, so there will be more of those coming up. I don’t know about a full-length film, but I’m working on idea for a short film.

Your advice to future LomoKino users.

Think first of a story you want to capture on film, but don’t be afraid to improvise as much as possible, let go and have fun.

Enter a new analogue dimension with the LomoKino. Lomography’s own 35mm analogue movie camera allows you to capture action and immortalize your story on film! Shoot 144 frames on any 35mm film and create your own cinematic masterpieces. Want to watch your movie the old-school way? We also offer the LomoKino and LomoKinoscope package!
