Foamlabbers as LomoAmigos #4: Liset

Seven young photography fans in one creative team - meet our newest Amigo from the Foam Lab. You know Rosa, Erik and Eelke already, so here is foam labber #4 - Liset van der Laan!

Name – Liset van der Laan
City – Amsterdam
Country – the Netherlands

When I grow up I’ll become a ballerina. Veterinarian. Painter. Flight attendant. Fashion designer, Hairdresser?! My little brain just didn’t know how to stop fantasizing about the options I would have in the job department when I grew up. Though my brain never dreamed up the possibilities of me working in the Amsterdam Photography Museum for a whole year as a Foam labber. It’s been a unforgettable experience.

I’m Liset, 23 years old, born and raised in Amsterdam. When I have some time off I spend it on the sofa with my boyfriend to have Twin Peaks marathons, I go see a movie or I’m dancing with my friends. Most of these adventures you can find on"my blog":http://ilikethatblog.com.

After graduating in Interactive Media I went to London for 3 months. I’d go home in December and I was looking around at what I could do now that I had my degree. I did some online searches for companies and organizations that would suit me and that’s how I ended up at the Foam Lab gekomen. As a Photography fan Foam was a place I already knew about and visited regularly. With my Canon EOS 500d I photographed my little behind off in London. But for my 23rd birthday, just after I came back to Amsterdam, my friends gave me a Diana F+. It was the epic start of my analogue adventures.

Feelings of days gone by crept up again all of a sudden. Counting the days till I could pick up my negatives, then the loveable stress of ‘will it have turned out okay’. And off course the euphoric feeling of holding the pictures in my hands. Oh, and my friends? They didn’t trust my Diana at all… Every picture I took with her, they had me retake with a digital camera, just in case the analogue one would ‘fail’.

After about a week of surfing they had more faith in my analogue capabilities. And soon they became big fans of the double-exposures I shot with my LC-A. In fact, their trust went as far that they where okay with me leaving my digital camera behind when we went to the Lowlands festival!

During my time as a LomoAmigo I had the opportunity to test a lot of different Lomography cameras. I’ve handled the Fisheye, LC-A+, Sprocket Rocket, Spinner, Colorsplash, Supersampler and my own Diana-F+. My favorite is the LC-A+, it’s just such a great camera that can be used with relative ease and has a great result. I love taking pictures of the people around me. The other Foam labbers, friends, family, none of them are safe from me and my camera’s. Taking pictures of people with an analogue camera is different from the digital version. You take a picture and that’s it. The eventual result is a mystery, well, until you pick up the developed film that is.

My time at the Foam Lab
Pictures that have been taking in the spur of the moment are still the best ones in my humble opinion. Which is why it’s so important that you keep your camera close to you at all times! With the LC-A+ this is very easy since it’s a relatively small camera.

The past year has been hectic. With a small group of very enthusiastic people we managed to present some awesome projects and events as the Foam Lab. But, that’s it. It’s over now for me. It’s hard to believe that 10 months have passed so quickly. Part of me is a bit scared, what to do now? I’m not sure yet but I do know I’ll keep shooting pictures and write about my adventures on my blog.

To send you all off with some inspiration, 3 songs I want to share with you. :)

The Lomo LC-A+ is known worldwide for its amazing features: automatic exposure, extended ISO range, and multiple and long exposure capabilities. Get your own Lomo LC-A+ now!
