Malaysia Film Director Dick Chua Shoots with the LomoKino

Dick believes that nothing is impossible if we have the passion to make it successful. He's the man behind The Negative Effect and an awesome travelogue video to Taiwan. He's the man behind a lot of wonderful local music videos, commercials, and some interesting short films. He is Dick Chua, a guy who likes to ride in the middle of the night, a film maker, and a passionate artist in everything he does.

Please begin by telling us a little about yourself…
I was born from Kelantan, Malaysia and I am a filmmaker, I always dream to have my movie shot in film.

How did you get into photography/lomography? When?
Getting serious about photography is during secondary school time. It was because everyone “must” have some so call “focus photo” for exchange when all about to graduate. It was also that time I started to learn about aperture and shutter speed and experienced with different film ISO.

How long have you been a Lomographer?
More than 5 years.

Where did your inspiration come from?
Movies, most of the time.

What is the most unforgettable moment / incident that happen throughout your photography journey?
I went to beijing when I was 12-years-old, and I burn 28 rolls of film, all having myself in the photos. And also winning LCA+ and Horizon from lomography competition! Horizon was a huge dream of mine!

What is the definition of analogue lifestyle to you?
Love the mistake, and ready for surprise.

How would you describe the LomoKino in 5 words?
A Super 8 in 35mm.

What’s your favorite feature of the LomoKIno and why?
The tiny viewfinder is actually very accurate, but not for macro.

What LomoKino movie would you most like to shoot?
A story of a girl who has only 36 days of memory.

If you could shoot any person, dead or alive, who would it be?
My Grandma and Grandpa.

Tell us something about you’ve been doing lately, like your latest project.
Canon EOS 600D TVC.

Get a monopod!
