Syahrulfikri and his best friend; LC-A+

Please introduce yourself in a few words…
Travel. Arts. Dark humour. In no particular order.

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you come across the products of Lomography for the first time?
I started around 2004, so now more or less I’m in my seventh year. I love islands and beaches, and back then I was looking for an underwater camera for my trips. Digital underwater casing was too expensive for me and that’s how I came across Frogeye camera. I love the amphibian nature of the camera and how tough it was. I could bring it anywhere, anytime not just near water. But sadly, it’s no longer being produced.

What’s the best part of your job?
I’m loving my job. I know it’s hard to believe in these modern days to love your job but I do. I’m teaching Typography and Graphic Design in an international university and it’s just overwhelming to have this honour to share my knowledge, experience and my passion with enthusiastic and creative individuals of from the younger generation. The best part is, I learn a lot from my students.

And the worst?
Bureaucrazy.

Describe the LC-A+ in five words.
A lonely man’s best friend.

What is the definition of analogue lifestyle to you?
I believe life should be a balance of traditional and modern, where both are equally important. Same goes with our lifestyle, analogue and digital must co-exist. Digital lifestyle is just to ease you but your real life is still analogue. I’m more of an analogue person. I don’t own any of those smart gadgets because I’d prefer to have a real living chicken rather than on FarmVille.

The most unforgettable, strangest or worst photographic/Lomographic encounter that you have ever had.
My Lomo is a window of my life, on what I see and how I feel so I can’t say one is the most unforgettable or strangest. All is good. But the worst is when the films came back blank and empty. I lost six rolls of beautiful memories while in London last year. That breaks my heart.

If you could take your camera and a sack of film anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
I would go everywhere. I wanna see everything. We live in such an amazing beautiful world and each countries have their own unique story to tell but if you’re giving me a free plane ticket, then I’ll choose to go to Barcelona. I’ve never been there. But a good friend of mine told me that Barcelona is where I should live. It has beautiful beaches, Gaudi architecture and a colourful culture.

If you could photograph anything in the world (person, place, moment, whatever) what would it be?
My future kids. And I’m still single.

If your photos shown here could have a soundtrack of three songs, what would they be (song title & artist please)?
We Never Change - Coldplay
I Wanna be Adored - Stone Roses
Live Forever - Oasis

Tell us something that you’ve been doing lately, like your latest project.
Camping. That’s my latest project. Just to be with my good friends somewhere outdoor enjoying nature and fresh air. Work wise related, I specialize in typography design and will be participating in an upcoming Pipit’s event (Malaysian design community).

Can you share your favorite photographers with us?
To be honest, I’m not really into photography and I don’t have any particular favorite photographer. I’m more into visual arts. I just love to browse randomly looking for amazing photos that inspire me. However, I’m currently following Johnny McGeorge from Girls. And Money. Not just because he shoots pretty girls but he’s multi-talented. Another is Nadirah Zakariya, I’ve been following her work since i joined Lomography. She shoots with great passion, you could feel her emotions in all of her work.

What’s your favorite photo in the collection and why?
I’m not about pretty photographs, I’m more about capturing my personal memories with my beautiful friends. And this is my favourite simply because we could be happy together no matter what culture we came from. And they make me feel forever young.
