Over the next few days we’re bringing you some awesome LomoAmigos! These guys are top action sports journalists, sharing a slice of their life. First up: Johnny Elia, the Online Editor of Ride UK BMX Magazine!

Name:Johnny Elia
Age: 23
Location: Cambridge

Tell us a bit about yourself….
Firstly my real name is not Johnny, it’s Gianluca. I’m half Italian – some might think different, because I don’t look italian at all. I had the name Johnny since I was a kid. I started riding a BMX bike about 9 years ago and shot photos/videos for about the same. I like to travel, spend time with friends, being creative while having a good laugh along the way.

How did you become the Online Editor of Ride UK BMX Magazine.
I was taking a year out from work one year, so I could travel and ride my bike. I as living off freelance work here and there and one day the job position opened up and I got asked if I would like to do the job. I went in for a chat and here I am today.

What’s the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is probably getting to travel for free, meeting new people all the time and being a part of something that I followed for so many years.

and the worst?
The only worse thing I can think about is, not being able to ride my bike as much as I used to.

Where were your photos taken?
Most of the photos were shot in my local town, Cambridge. This was either when I was cruising around with my mates riding or late night in my room editing footage. There’s a few shots of my local trails spot which is based just outside Cambridge. In June I went to the FISE event in Montpellier, France where I shot a few photos, and also on the BMX road trip with the Monster Energy team.

Are you a keen lomographer or are you new to this whole thing?
I borrowed a camera off a friend once a long time ago. But that doesn’t count. This was my first proper time with the Sprocket Rocket.

What did you think of the camera?
I like it. I’m going to get one for myself! It was simple, light and allways in my bag – even If it was my camera bag or the bag that I commuted to work with. I even strapped a shoe lace to the camera and chucked it around my sholder when I didn’t have my bag.

If your photos could have a soundtrack, what would it be? (3 songs, title and artist please)
The Dead Weather – Hustle and Cuss
Kaskade feat. Dragonette – Fire In Your New Shoes
Method Man – All I Need

If you could photograph anything in the world (person, place, moment, whatever) what would it be?
Friends and people I know having a good time, either riding bikes or having a laugh.

what’s coming up next in your world?
Who knows. You never know what’s around the corner.

The Sprocket Rocket is the first wide-angle camera dedicated entirely to sprockets. And with dual winding knobs for easy multiple exposures, there is no limit to your analogue creativity with this panoramic wonder. See the Sprocket Rocket in our Shop!
